A K9 with the Niagara County Sheriff's Office will soon get a new, bullet and stab-protective vest thanks to non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

K9 Chief's body armor is sponsored by Pam, Corey, and Todd Harmon of Lockport. The vest will be embroidered with, "In memory of Chief Craig C. Harmon."

The department will receive the vest in 8 to 10 weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is based in Massachusetts. The non-profit's mission is to provide protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs and related agencies.

Since 2009, the organization has provided more than 3,100 vests to dogs in 50 states — a total of $5.7 million worth of product. They were provided through private and corporate donations.

The donation to provide a vest is $950.00.
