Niagara County home destroyed by overnight fire

An 18-year-old Medina woman was taken to a hospital to be treated. The home is considered a total loss.

BARKER, N.Y. — A overnight fire in Niagara County destroyed a home and led to a woman being hospitalized.

The communications center for the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 call from a homeowner around 3:25 a.m. Saturday, reporting heavy smoke in the residence.

Crews then arrived at the 8700 block of Main Street in the Village of Barker, where two people had already evacuated the building. One of those people, an 18-year-old woman from Medina, was later taken to Medina Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries and further evaluation.

The home is considered a total loss. The total damage estimate has yet to be determined.

American Red Cross is providing help with emergency assistance. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
