BUFFALO, N.Y. — Close to $2.5 million is coming to Western New York aimed at bolstering social services and help low-income families reach financial stability.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that $17.2 million in grants are to help local social services departments across the state to hire more staff. These social service departments assist families with mental health, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, homelessness, or domestic violence, according to the Governor’s Office. The funding aims to hire one to seven full-time staff to provide case management services to local families, said the Governor’s Office.
“By giving local social services departments the funding to hire more staff and bolster operations, we can bring more families out of poverty and into a brighter future,” said Governor Hochul.
It is part of the State’s Family-Centered Services initiative to strengthen social services in the state. Local social services will provide unique resources to their communities.
“This funding will provide a much-needed boost to local social services districts and enable them to better serve some of our most vulnerable families by helping them overcome barriers to connecting with the services they need,” said Paul Brady, Executive Director of New York Public Welfare Association.
