Need a replacement social security card, but don't want to wait in the long lines? Well, New York State residents can now get theirs online.
The Social Security Administration announced Monday a new online service for New York State residents to get a replacement social security card.
Residents 18 and older can make the request through the SSA portal at: www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
“I’m pleased to offer the residents of New York the added convenience of replacing a Social Security card through the my Social Security portal,” says Acting Commissioner Nancy Berryhill in a released statement. “We will continue to work on innovative initiatives to provide people with safe, secure and convenient options for doing business with us online or in person.”
Right now, New York State and the District of Columbia are the only ones who have this option. It will expand the service through other states throughout the year.
The new feature is expected to create shorter wait times for the public at local social security offices and allow staff to spend more time with customers.
