Help is coming to NY mental health youth clinics

The announcement is part of the governor's plan to change the New York State mental health care system.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's $5 million coming to school-based mental health clinics across the state.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul shared the news Thursday morning, saying it will increase access and support to 137 schools.

The announcement is part of the governor's plan to change the New York State mental health care system.

"This builds on our $1 billion investment in my last budget," she said. "A continue of care. Everything for more beds for people on the streets. They can get the support that they need in hospitals. Support for people who are veterans people with long PTSD, people with mental health challenges, people with substance abuse challenges, so that is all that we're focusing on today."

Overall, $1.4 million will go to 55 clinics, with the remaining $3.7 million going to 82 schools in high-need districts.
