BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul met with tech leaders to talk about the agreement to create Empire AI.
It's a one of a kind deal to put New York State ahead in Artificial Intelligence research included in this year's state budget.
Empire AI will spend $275 million to launch a state-of-the-art AI computing center on the University at Buffalo campus.
"Whoever dominates the AI industry will dominate the next chapter of history and we want New York to win the race for the future," Governor Hochul said. "Our Empire AI Consortium will position New York State at the forefront of this burgeoning industry for decades to come. Through this pioneering public-private partnership, we are fostering an ecosystem of innovation, research and growth that will drive countless new discoveries, launch new companies and products, and transform the way that New Yorkers live their lives for the better."
University at Buffalo, SUNY Vice President for Research & Economic Development Venu Govindaraju said, “For four decades, the University at Buffalo has been breaking ground in artificial intelligence, establishing UB as a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the field. The center will be used by New York institutions to promote the research and development of AI, which is expected to create technology jobs in the future.
