NYSP Trooper dies from 9/11 related illness

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The New York State Police announced a trooper from Rochester has passed away from an illness connected to his assignment near the World Trader Center site following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Trooper Steven A. Tyrrell, 58, was assigned to the New York City detail to assist in the search and recovery efforts.

He started his career with the State Police in October 1997 and served for 26 years.  He spent most of his career working for Troop T on the NYS Thruway and was last assigned to Troop T in Henrietta. 

Trooper Tyrell is survived by his three children, Sean, Kathryn, and Rachel.
