IRVING, N.Y. — New York State Police were called to a hostage situation Tuesday afternoon on Route 438 in Collins, near Versailles Plank Road.
Troopers arrived at the seen around 3:30 p.m., where a car crash had occurred.
According to New York State Police, one of the drivers pulled out a weapon and took a hostage. 2 On Your Side was told that hostage negotiators were at the scene, and several law enforcement agencies had established a perimeter.
Troopers say just before 6:30 p.m. the hostage was released in good health. The suspect was later taken into custody without incident around 7:14 p.m.
During the hostage situation, New York State Police were asking the public to stay away from the area.
