NEW YORK — Federal grants are bringing funds to New York State to help housing efforts for the homeless and at-risk veterans.

$44 million in grants were announced today by U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. The grants focus on different community organizations across the state, including here in Western New York. It aims to fund initiatives to rehouse veterans and their families, find housing options,  and prevent the loss of veterans' homes.

Senator Gillibrand said it is "unacceptable," that veterans are homeless after serving for the country.

"Our brave veterans have put their lives on the line to protect us, and it’s unacceptable that after years of service to their country, so many end up on the streets," she said.
