New women's tackle football team in Buffalo

The Buffalo Yeti's now join teams across the country in the Women's Football Alliance.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — On one South Buffalo football field,  the game is a lot more than just a sport.

"Everybody is family, everybody. These are my people," team member Shinnelle Sharpe said.

For the Buffalo Yeti's, the start of a football team kicked off a sisterhood.

"We have fun in practice, we have tough moments and we talk about it so we could all help each other," team member Jae Nelson said. "That's all it is, being a family unit and being one."

This newly founded family unit is also making history. The Yeti's are now officially part of the Women's Football Alliance, resurrecting women's football in the Queen City. Coach and Co-Owner, Julius Davis talked about when the Buffalo All-Stars, New York’s first professional women’s tackle football team, were in the city back in the 1970's.

A renewed tradition is bringing a new sense of family and community to players like Torrie Doran, who recently moved to the area from Alabama.

"I love football, and Alabama, they love football too, so actually coming out here and playing out here, it's different," Doran said.

Now, the Yeti's are looking to make even more women part of the family. The team is holding tryouts this Saturday, October 19 at Mulroy Park. More information is available on the Buffalo Yetis' website here
