BUFFALO, N.Y. — Erie County, the City of Buffalo, and the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy have announced the official opening of the Delaware Park playground at Colvin Avenue and Amherst Street.
The $507,000 project was made possible by the investment of the City of Buffalo and Erie County. The new playground will offer a safe and accessible play space for children.
“Safe, accessible, and well-maintained parks are essential to our residents’ quality of life,” said City of Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon. “With this investment, the new inclusive playground at Delaware Park opens to children of all ages and abilities, creating a welcoming space where every child can play freely and without limitations. As both mayor and a dad, I’m thrilled to see this collaboration bringing spaces like this to life, and I look forward to creating even more for our community.”
City officials said the playground will be available for children of all ages and abilities. The new playground hopes to enhance recreational opportunities for all families in the community.
“Inclusive playgrounds provide wonderful, interactive spaces for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy while they socialize and have fun with others. These playgrounds are hugely popular at our Erie County parks and having one here at Delaware Park will certainly bring more families here to enjoy this great natural space,” said Deputy Erie County Executive Lisa M. Chimera. “This project is the product of a strong collaboration between the City of Buffalo, Erie County and the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy for the benefit of all residents and it shows what can happen when partners work together.”
