City of Buffalo announces new Chief Diversity Officer

Prior to his appointment Saxon was the director for the City's Office of New Americans.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown recently announced the appointment of Darren E. Saxon as the new Chief Diversity Officer for the City's office of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“Since I took office, diversity in the city’s workforce has increased by 45 percent. People of color now comprise more than 40 percent of the city’s workforce. The city’s government now better reflects the diversity of its residents, as it should,” said Mayor Brown in a release. "I trust Mr. Saxon’s judgment and his experience. I am confident that Mr. Saxon will continue the good work we have done by expanding diversity, equity, and inclusion both within City Hall and throughout our city."

Prior to his appointment Saxon was the director for the City's Office of New Americans. While in that role he was a key part in helping communicate to non-English speaking resident's during the winter storm. 

"I am humbled and honored to assume the role of Chief Diversity Officer for the city of Buffalo. Together, we will continue the path forged by Mayor Brown toward a more inclusive and equitable city, where diversity is celebrated, and opportunities are accessible to all,” said Saxon. “I am committed to fostering dialogue, driving change, and ensuring that every resident feels valued and represented. Let us unite, embrace our differences, and build a future where everyone can thrive."

Darren is replacing officer Chantel Campbell who is now the Chief Health Equity Officer at Best Self Behavioral Health.
