New Buffalo Fire Commissioner sworn in

William Renaldo served the Buffalo Fire Department as a Battalion Chief. He also served as a Colonel in the United States Army.

BUFFALO, NY-- The Buffalo Common Council appointed a new leader to the city's fire department Tuesday.

William Renaldo served the Buffalo Fire Department as a Battalion Chief. He also served as a Colonel in the Army.

“For more than 30 years, I’ve worked with the men and women of the BFD, and I couldn’t be prouder to lead this team. Our courageous firefighters sacrifice to protect this City each day, and I will ensure the Department has the resources to provide the highest level of service to all of our residents. Mayor Brown has outlined a strong vision for the future of this Department—one that provides for the best of services for all our residents equally and reflects our City’s diverse communities—and I look forward to making this vision a reality,” said incoming BFD Commissioner Renaldo in a released statement.

City officials appointed a new commissioner after the previous commissioner, Vincent Muscarella was sidelined for an indefinite amount of time due to an on-duty injury.

City lawmakers questioned another city official for more details in May when that official showed up at a city budget meeting instead of Muscarella. They were told at the time no other information could be released because it was a 'personnel issue.' Muscarella had been fire commissioner for only about four months at the time.
