BUFFALO, N.Y. — Thousands of National Grid customers in Erie County lost power on Thursday evening.
The outages started as far north as Derby and Eden and ran south — along the Thruway , Route 5, and U.S. 62 — down to North Collins, Brant, Farnham, and Irving.
More than 9,000 customers lacked power, starting around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. That number dropped to around 6,000 by 8:30 p.m. Almost all of those customers had their power restored by 11 p.m.
"There was an equipment failure at a substation that resulted in the loss of electricity service to around 9,000 customers," a spokesperson for National Grid confirmed to 2 On Your Side.
National Grid said crews that were on the scene making repairs that service would be restored Thursday night.
