BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo music legend has passed away.
Billy Nunn passed away over the weekend.
Nunn grew up in Buffalo's Fruit Belt neighborhood and attended Hutch-Tech High School, according to his biography on the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame website.
Nunn played for multiple groups over the years across the country, but came back to Buffalo in the late 70s and began working with Rick James writing songs. During this time, Nunn played with James' Stone City Band. One of the songs they co-wrote, "Mary Jane', became a hit on the R&B Top 5 in 1978.
"Members of the Stone City Band posted this tribute on Facebook Sunday.
"Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Billy Nunn. He fought a long and courageous battle, but unfortunately, his journey has come to an end. As we grieve his passing, we ask that you also say a prayer for his family and friends. May they find comfort and strength during this difficult time, and may Billy's memory live on through the love and memories he shared with all of us. Rest in peace, my brother. You will be greatly missed."
Nunn was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2015. He spent several years living in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, according to his bio.
