Music is Art no longer happening on AKG grounds

The Music is Art Festival will be happening at Buffalo's Outer Harbor after organizers faced challenges to host it at the AKG.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The organizers for the Music is Art Festival have announced that there will be a change in locations for the upcoming fall event. Originally the festival was going to be held at the AKG but now will be held at Buffalo's Outer Harbor.

Organizers said that the change was due to challenges that stood in the way of having the festival on the AKG's grounds.

"They just weren't familiar with the situation we had running, so the very last thing we want to do is make this less than it's been, you know, and so after some discussions, we decided that it was probably best for us to find another place, and we had been courted by the good folks down at the Outer Harbor. They were hoping that maybe we'd come down there next year, and it's amazing down there. Unbelievable amount of room, " said Robby Takac, Music Is Art Founder.

"Every point that you turn, there's going to be something else going on. Music Is Art has a lot of big ideas for how this space can be used, going to be so many stages set up, different bands, different places that you can interact with music and art and just see everything that we have to offer both at the Outer Harbor and through this festival," said Lauren Ford, Buffalo Waterfront General Manager.

"The campus down there really gave us, you know, the opportunity to spread out, and it's really a great mixture of, you know, the waterfront, and the exciting things that are happening down there. Even the nature trails and such that are down there really presented a unique opportunity for us to display art," said Robby Takac.

In a press release the group said "In order to present WNY with the experience that it has come to expect with our annual festival, we are beyond excited to announce that the AKG and BSU will be joining us at our new location on September 21st, 2024 at the NEW location for our annual Music is Art Festival, Buffalo’s newest concert venue Terminal B, the neighboring Lakeside Lawn, and Buffalo’s Outer Harbor."

The event will be happening on Saturday, September 21 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission and parking are both free for those attending.
