ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — The Erie County Sheriff's Office say weather may be to blame for a 10-vehicle crash that happened in the Town of Wales Monday.
The multi-vehicle accident happened on Route 20A just after 4:30 p.m.
Investigators say weather conditions at the time were "near whiteout" with heavy snow.
Ten vehicles were involved. While the incident was occurring, deputies say people were exiting their vehicles to leave the roadway because of the amount of oncoming traffic hitting vehicles. A 12-year-boy, who was traveling with his family, was hit by a vehicle. He was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.
Other people injured in the crash were treated for minor injuries by the Wales Center Fire Department.
