More EV charging stations coming to WNY through National Grid program

National Grid has done over half of the plugs they are anticipating putting in. Funds are limited until next year.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — More electric vehicle charging stations are coming to Western New York through a National Grid program. These chargers can be used by visitors and residents.

Places like the Aquarium of Niagara, Batavia Downs and the Village of Ellicottville are all now a part of National Grid's Electric Vehicle Make Ready Program. They have all installed level 2 charging plugs through this expanding program.

At the aquarium, National Grid's program paid for 60% of the total project costs, which came out to be around $40,000 dollars. These chargers are located at 701 Whirlpool Street in Niagara Falls. You can also find other charging stations at plugshare.com.

The Aquarium of Niagara CEO and president Chad Fifer said adding these plugs to their parking lot is one way they are committed to supporting a healthier planet.

National Grid plans to invest more than $150 million to install 9,000 plugs across Upstate New York, including 3,000 across WNY. So far, National Grid has done over half of the plugs they are anticipating putting in. Funds are limited until next year.
