Migrants will soon be moving out of Western New York hotels

Asylum seekers staying in area hotels must leave by Dec. 31, which is when the DocGo contract ends.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Migrants living in hotels in Cheektowaga and Amherst will have to be out of those rooms soon.

2 On Your Side learned Friday that asylum seekers staying in area hotels must leave by Dec. 31, which is when the DocGo contract ends.

The Erie County Executive's press secretary released a statement on Friday, saying that "any individuals or families who have not received a permanent community placement by then, as part of a New York State or federally sanctioned immigration program, will be transported back to New York City."

We also reached out to DocGo, which on Friday told 2 On Your Side: "Based on direction from the city, graduates of the program are either transitioned into other state or local supportive housing programs based on eligibility and capacity, or reconnected with friends and family with the City of New York covering the cost of travel, or returned to the arrival center in New York City."
