Snowy mess causes road closings and crashes

First snowfall in WNY lead to messy commute

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The first flakes and frost of the season creating slippery driving conditions, like black ice, leading to multiple crashes and road closures.

Route 33 outbound was closed in two different spots this morning because of the icy conditions. Outbound lanes were closed between Bailey Avenue and Suffolk Street and then from Harlem Road to the 1-90. Traffic was forced off at Pine Ridge.

There is congestion on the 290-East near the Millersport Highway exit in Amherst.

Abbott Road is also closed from Lake Avenue to Milestrip Road in Hamburg.

A vehicle in Hamburg slid off the road and hit a utility pole on Cloverbank Road. There were no injuries but the road has been closed since 11pm last night for crews to make repairs.

One lane is closed on the Oak Street ramp off the inbound Route 33.

Drivers are advised to take it slow as road conditions are still icy in spots.
