ELBA, N.Y. — One person was transported by Mercy Flight following a two-vehicle crash Sunday night in Elba, where a car didn't stop at a stop sign and was struck by a pickup truck.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened at 6:17 p.m. at State Route 98 and Lockport Road. All three people in the vehicles were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Officials said a 2017 Subaru WRX driven by 28-year-old Ashwin Mallikarjunaswamy of Rochester failed to stop at the intersection. That's when a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 65-year-old Edward Buczek of Elba struck the car on the passenger side
Sheriff's officials said both vehicles came to a rest on the west shoulder of State Route 98.
The passenger, 27-year-old Nikitha Ganeshmurthy of Edison, N.J., was taken from the scene by Mercy Flight to Strong Hospital with serious injuries. Late Sunday night, Ganeshmurthy was listed in stable condition, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.
Mallikarjunaswamy was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
Mallikarjunaswamy and Buczek were treated for minor injuries.
