Man dies of suspected overdose on Grand Island: Erie County Sheriff

Deputies responded to Grand Island where a 58-year-old man was experiencing a medical emergency and later died.

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — A man died Friday due to an suspected overdose in Erie County, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies were called to Grand Island around 8:30 p.m. on June 21 after reports came in that a 58-year-old man was experiencing a medical emergency. When medical personnel arrived they administered multiple Narcan doses and did CPR, but 45 minutes later, deputies said the man died.

People in the area told deputies that the man had smoked cocaine before having the medical emergency. This comes after seven people died in less than five hours on Monday across Buffalo, Tonawanda, and Lackawanna due to suspected overdoses.  

The Erie County Sheriff's Office is reminding drug users that their products are unsafe and that the county offers free fentanyl test strips, xylazine test strips, and Narcan.

Residents can obtain these items by calling 716-858-7695 or texting 716-225-5473. Additionally, Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia said to call 716-858-7755 to report any drug activity in your neighborhood.
