Local soldier on the field during Super Bowl National Anthem

The Pine Valley graduate is a member of the Joint Service Color Guard.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's always a Buffalo connection, including one during the Super Bowl that Western New Yorkers may not have realized.

While Demi Lovato was giving her remarkable rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner," U.S. Army Sergeant Kilian Abers was standing behind her with other members of the Joint Service Color Guard.

Abers is a 2016 graduate of Pine Valley High School in Cattaraugus County.

"I was actually in Fort Campbell training when I got the call," said Abers. "It was really nice to hear from the guys and definitely to find out I was going was a dream come true and a once in a lifetime opportunity."

As a member of the Joint Service Color Guard, Abers has appeared at several big sporting and military events.

He's even attended several events at the White House.
