Inside a local firework company's 4th of July preparation

Skylighters of New York will put on 59 firework shows for the 4th of July holiday, all within the span of 4 nights.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Skylighters Fireworks of Western New York is preparing for what some may call the busiest firework holiday of the year.

They will be putting on 59 shows over the course of the next four nights throughout this single week alone.

"It's our Superbowl right now," said Skylighters owner, Matt Shaw, as he shared his excitement for the company's busy week ahead.

Shaw is working alongside his crew of 144 trained professionals to put on memorable shows across Western New York and keep safety a top priority.

This July 4th holiday, Shaw urges families to celebrate and enjoy professional firework shows that follow required safety standards.

When preparing for large firework displays, the week-long forecast can play a factor- especially if high winds are predicted.

"All the electrical connectors are water-tight," said Shaw, adding that his fireworks can be set up if the forecast calls for rain.

Spectators can expect new shapes, colors, and effects in addition to the traditional fireworks patterns displayed at previous shows.

"We've finally been able to perfect a smiley face with blinking eyes," said Shaw.

Although his company offers a mix of electronic and hand-fired displays, the demand for larger shows this week will require full electronic firing.

Over the past twenty-one years, Shaw has helped Western New Yorkers celebrate holidays and milestones with his company's professional services- putting on nearly 400 shows each year.

"It's really exciting to celebrate the best holiday and be such a big part of it," said Shaw, describing the pride that the entire firework crew at Skylighters feel after each show comes to its colorful finale. "For the next 25 or 30 minutes you can kind of forget about life, remember why we're here, and celebrate with friends and family."
