Lewiston-Porter school district still fighting for a new traffic light

The district submitted a petition to install a new traffic light at the high school entrance. The state rejected it.

LEWISTON, N.Y. — Members of the Lewiston-Porter Central School District are continuing to fight for a traffic light after their petition was rejected.

The district submitted a petition to the New York State Department of Transportation and Gov. Kathy Hochul to have a new traffic light installed at the entrance of the Lewiston-Porter High School.

The superintendent says the light would help ease the flow of traffic in the busy area.

"It is proactive and important on the part of the Department of Transportation to create a more safe and effective flow of traffic for us," Superintendent Paul Casseri said, "not just for the adults that are dropping their children off, but more importantly, for the significant number of young drivers that are using this road every morning."

The district is working to gain community support as they continue to push back on the Department of Transportation.
