LEWISTON, N.Y. — Lewiston Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened at 2:43 p.m. on Lewiston Road, near Fort Gray Drive. That's where police found someone who had been riding a motorcycle lying in the roadway.
Personnel with the Upper Mountain Fire Company's Ambulance declared that person dead at the scene.
Lewiston Police soon began talking with witnesses, who said the motorcyclist made contact with a semi on Lewiston Road, north of Mountain View Drive.
"The semi-truck proceeded to drag the motorcycle and the operator," police said. "The operator was found at Fort Gray Drive, and the motorcycle was located on the on ramp to Upper Mountain Road overpass."
The driver of the semi is cooperating with Lewiston Police on the investigation. Lewiston Road, from Center Street to the 190, was closed for hours while the accident investigators and crime scene investigators were at the scene.
The name of the person who died is being withheld as police notify the family.
An investigation by the Lewiston Police Accident Investigation Unit is ongoing. New York State Parks Police, New York State Police, and the Niagara County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
