BUFFALO, NY — East Aurora and Lewiston are among the safest places to live in New York and received the highest marks in Western New York, according to the National Council of Home Safety and Security.
The list of 142 towns, villages and cities with over 10,000 residents ranked East Aurora as 27th and Lewiston as 41st. Not far below on the list are Orchard Park, Lancaster, West Seneca and Evans all ranking within the top 50 percent.
According to NeighborhoodScout.com, chances of "becoming victim of a violent crime" in Lewiston is 1 in 2,591 compared to 1 in 266 in New York State. Lewiston is safer than 67% of U.S. cities. East Aurora is 77 percent safer than U.S. cities, with a 1 in 10,000 chance of a person becoming victim to a violent crime.
The list is based on the FBI Uniform Crime Report, population data and internal research reviewed by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
Buffalo took the second to last spot on the list at 141st. Niagara Falls was ranked last at 142nd.
