BUFFALO, N.Y. — Not one, but three female directors saw their movies nominated for best picture.
"Anatomy of a Fall," "Barbie" and "Past Lives" were all directed by females.
"It's hugely important that women's voices and skills are recognized at this level. There are so many women working in film production behind and in front of the camera that has not been acknowledged," said Lukia Costello a local documentary filmmaker.
For her seeing women filmmakers hit a milestone is a big deal. But will it open more doors? She said "Maybe because it is a business and a film industry. Doors are pretty tight, it's very difficult to gain any purchase in that industry."
Locally, Costello's work, including YOU ARE NOT FOR ART is making its way through the Film Festival circuit.
