NEWFANE, N.Y. — The Niagara County Sheriff's Department announced on Tuesday night that a juvenile has been arrested following threats made at two Niagara County school district's.
Throughout the day on Tuesday, September 17 officials at both Newfane and Lockport shared messages with parents that their schools had been aware of a threat made to their campuses. In an effort to better keep the school's safe the Niagara County Sheriff's Department made sure that there was an enhanced police presence at both schools.
At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday the Sheriff's Department shared that following the enhanced security measures and an investigation, a juvenile had been arrested on one count of making a threat of mass harm.
In the release the Niagara County Sheriff's Department wrote "The arrest stems from a joint investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Bureau and the City of Lockport Police Detective Bureau, following a social media threat to Newfane and Lockport School Districts."
Due to the suspect being a juvenile, a name will not be released to the public. It is not mentioned whether the student was enrolled at Newfane or Lockport schools.
