BUFFALO, N.Y. — The 152nd Jesse Ketchum Award Ceremony will be awarding eighth grade students at West Hertel Academy on Tuesday, October 17 at 6:30pm.
Students with the highest grade point average will receive medals which range from gold to silver and bronze.
The highest level medal (gold) will go to the student with the highest average which is Maimuna Mim from City Honors School, with a 99.75 percent GPA.
A Dr. Lydia T. Wright School of Excellence student who currently attends City Honors, Jaylen Shaw, will take home the silver for having a GPA of 99.50 percent.
The bronze medals will be given to the 31 remaining students from various Buffalo schools who will also receive certificates along with their medals.
Every student receiving the Jesse Ketchum Award this year will also be receiving a cash prize and the option of deciding on the high school of their choosing that they would like to attend.
At the Jesse Ketchum Award Ceremony will be the New York State Director of Diversity & Inclusion Zeneta Everhart as its keynote speaker. Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo public schools' Superintendent, Dr. Tonja Williams will be in attendance at the ceremony to celebrate the awarded students being recognized.
