JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Firefighters in Jamestown battled a large fire at a local business on Blackstone Street on Thursday afternoon.
Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson said two people were in the building at the time. Neither was injured. A Jamestown Fire lieutenant confirms that everyone was able leave the building safely, including a pet cat that was rescued.
According to Jamestown Fire, the building housed an auto transmission shop and a warehouse for Valpro.
The fire began on the northeast end of the building. The heavy fire caused the east end of the building to collapse as the fire spread quickly to the other side of the structure, according to Jamestown Fire.
Jamestown Police added that a propane tank exploded, but Jamestown Fire says that while that is known, a cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Video posted Thursday on the Jamestown Post Journal Facebook page shows heavy smoke coming from a building.
