Nearly 20-hour standoff in Batavia reaches ends

Numerous law enforcement agencies are surrounded a building nearby in the 200 block of Liberty Street.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Nearly twenty hours after it began, a standoff between a man and Batavia Police has ended. 

Police surrounded a home where a man was shooting officers with a pellet gun on Monday. 

2 On Your Side learned that Batavia Police, along with members of the Genesee County Sheriff's Office and State Police surrounded a building in the 200 block of Liberty Street. Police had been on scene since around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The stand off ended just before 9am. 

Police say a man barricaded himself in his home and started shooting officers with the pellet gun.The man has also reportedly threatened people with a sword. No injuries have been reported.

Dismissal was delayed Monday for nearby Jackson Elementary School in the City of Batavia, while numerous law enforcement agencies dealt with the incident. Our crew at the scene saw police escorting home students who walk and others boarding buses for the ride home. 

School is open on Tuesday as normal.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the man for menacing.
