BUFFALO, N.Y. — An inmate at the Erie County Holding Center attempted suicide one day after being admitted to the facility, according to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
During a routine supervisory tour early Friday afternoon, a deputy discovered a man attempted to hang himself. Sheriffs say the inmate was found with a bedsheet tied around his neck, connected to the bars of his cell.
Jail management and correctional health personnel performed live-saving measures for 30 minutes until a pulse was detected. Following the incident he was taken to a local hospital for continued treatment.
At the family's request the presiding judge immediately lifted the outstanding warrant for robbery in the 2nd degree, releasing the inmate from custody, and allowing the family to be with the patient.
