LOCKPORT, N.Y. — An inmate at the Niagara County Correctional Facility faces an additional charge after the sheriff says he made false claims of being sexually assaulted.
Last month, Raymond R. Brooks, 24, reported that he was sexually assaulted by a corrections officer at the jail. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Bureau looked into the claims and determined the allegations were false, according to Sheriff Michael Filicetti.
Brooks was charged with one county of falsely reporting an incident, which is a misdemeanor. He was issued an appearance ticket and is due in Town of Lockport Court at a later date.
"We will continue to thoroughly investigate allegations, and if proven false, criminal charges will be filed. My officers have a difficult job and should not be subjected to baseless complaints," said Sheriff Filicetti.
