How old is too old to trick-or-treat; families weigh-in

Many people think there isn't a cut-off age. They say you have to dress in a costume.

CLARENCE, N.Y. — The Great Pumpkin Farm is gearing up and getting ready for another exciting Halloween. However, the big question that everyone has been trying to answer is, How old is it for you to be trick-or-treating?

"It is never too old to be trick-or-treating, " says Manager Katie Toth. She continues, "If you're willing to get dressed and go door to door and say trick-or-treat, you deserve some candy."

"There's never an age. You can't put an age on that," says a Pumpkin Farm Goer.

Many people feel there isn't an appropriate age to stop the fun. As long as you're in a costume, you can join the rest.

"We know everybody, primarily, that we're going to, but the kids still have fun with it and the spirit's great. It's childhood's magic. Make it last," says one mother.

According to The National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend $12.2 Billion on Halloween candy.  That's about $108 per person.

However, if you're going to enjoy the spooky season, Here are some tips from a few pumpkin farm goers.

"Wear something reflective. Stick with your parents. You don't want to run into somebody that's going to get you into trouble," Toth says.

"Pets are my big things because sometimes you go to the door, and the dogs try to get out. Then, we check the candy when we get home. We didn't eat anything until we got home to make sure it wasn't open," says one parent.

The City of Buffalo also has a few rules. With safety top of mind, they recommend trick-or-treating to be finished by 8 p.m.

To keep mischief away from your home, keep your house well-lit. It's also recommended to keep in touch with block clubs and watch parties.
