BUFFALO, N.Y. — For years the NHL pushed the slogan "Hockey is for Everyone," and a mobile exhibit that pulled into Alumni Plaza at KeyBank Center on Friday is the travelling manifestation of that slogan.
It is called the United by Hockey Mobile Experience, a museum on wheels that celebrates the movers and shakers that have opened the sport to people of all walks of life and all races.
Such as Sabres and Bills owner Kim Pegula who is of South Korean descent, to former Sabre Tony McKegney, the fourth black player in NHL history and the first to score 40 goals in a season.
Tour Manager, Eric Knight says:
"The whole point of the National Hockey League United by Hockey experience is to promote the diversity in the sport of hockey. As you come in, you'll learn about the trailblazers, the change makers, business leaders. You'll learn about blacks and hockey, women in hockey, Indigenous, Asians Cubans. Hispanics, we're featuring adaptive hockey, which is sled hockey, Paralympics and blind hockey believe it or not."
It is a celebration of the multicultural and ethnically diverse athletes and builders of the sport.
The United by Hockey Mobile experience is open until 3p.m. on Friday and from 10a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday before it moves on to it's next visit in Boston next weekend.
Buffalo is just one of the 29 stops the attraction has, or will be making throughout this hockey season.
