BUFFALO, N.Y. — Harvest House on Jefferson Avenue helps thousands of people in our community every year access everything from healthy food to health care.
Right now, they need clothing donations for kids.
The need never goes away, but if you have clothes that don't fit your family anymore, Harvest House can really use your help, especially if you have clothes for newborns and older kids.
"Oftentimes, the folks who are coming to us, they're in crisis. Things are tough for them," Harvest House CEO Carol Murphy said.
As CEO of Harvest House, Murphy sees thousands of families each year come through the doors for help, thanks to Western New Yorkers who generously donate items they don't need anymore.
"Things like underwear, socks, diapers. Educational toys are really important to us, but we serve kids from newborn to size 14," Murphy said.
When a family stops by for clothes, they can be connected with essential medical services, too.
"These moms don't have access to prenatal care, so what we'll do is we'll work with them to connect them to a few of the really wonderful resources in Buffalo. Buffalo Prenatal/Perinatal, some of the other agencies, WIC, Catholic Charities, who will help them connect to doctors for some of that prenatal care," Murphy said.
Murphy says this is a community space, and it's all about bringing groups together to make sure no one goes without such basic needs.
"The mothers are afraid, you can see that fear in their eyes, and then when they leave, they're like new friends, you know? And there are smiles and they'll open up to us and tell us how rough their lives have been sometimes, and it's heartbreaking for us, but it's really nice to know that they found a place that is safe," Murphy said
Harvest House also needs volunteers to help sort the donations.
