HAMBURG, N.Y. — A Hamburg animal rescue had recently asked for the community's help in locating a kitten that they had assumed was stolen during one of their open houses.

Newton the kitten who had not only been assumed as stolen, had also stolen the hearts of many in the community, a good Samaritan at the time even donated $500 to the rescue for his safe return.

In an update made to HEART Animal Rescue's Facebook page on Monday, August 5th they explain that Newton had actually been misidentified with another kitten and adopted out to a family.

The rescue also said "What happened was a clerical mishap and he was not stolen. We apologize for jumping to that assumption, but that was the only conclusion we were able to make at the time. We were in horror and heartbroken that he was missing."

The rescue's post goes on to say that they apologize for keeping the update from the public as when they first shared the update on Newton's return, all that had been said was details would not be shared aside from that he was found and safe.
