Gun safety advocates are wearing orange this weekend to help raise awareness

New York Moms Demand Action held a gardening event at Frida's Garden on Orange Street in Buffalo to help spread awareness.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Gun safety advocates this weekend in Western New York are joining a national effort to raise awareness by wearing orange.

The New York chapter of Moms Demand Action held a gardening event at Frida's Garden on Orange Street in Buffalo to help spread awareness. 2 On Your Side spoke with volunteers who said they are spending the weekend doing work to honor victims and survivors in our area.

"We are an organization that wants to educate, and help people understand that we can do better," said Dr. Allison Freeman, a volunteer director for Everytown for Gun Safety. "Nobody needs to lose their firearms. We just need to learn how to keep them safe and recognize the role that firearms play in suicide, and in the loss of children in America."

Buffalo Police commissioner Joseph Gramaglia told Claudine Ewing on Friday that shootings are down this year compared to a record number in 2023.
