Gov. Hochul adds to security management for public colleges and universities

New York State public colleges and universities have increased safety concerns about those attending Shabbat services, even without any threats.

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul is sharing her concerns for the safety of public colleges and universities to increase their law enforcement for students who attend Shabbat services.

Gov. Hochul is committed to keeping New York State safe amid the Hamas attacks on Israel.

“While there is no credible threat to New York at this time, we are increasing law enforcement presence to ensure Jewish New Yorkers can safely gather and observe Shabbat services,”  Hochul said.

Students on college and university campuses will receive protection from local law enforcement. Security will be increased at Shabbat services as well.

These efforts are to ensure that all state-operated campuses keep their students feeling safe and have resources available to those in the Jewish Community and on campus.
