BUFFALO, N.Y. — Nearly 1,000 people, including 450 Girls on the Run participants and their buddy runners, participated in a 5K race in Delaware Park on Saturday morning.
Kathleen Machemer, a coach for Girls on the Run, attended the 5K and said after 10 weeks of practice, "all their hard work has paid off."
Each season comes to an end with a celebratory 5K race to give program participants of all abilities a sense of accomplishment.
Girls on the Run uses running and fitness to inspire young girls and encourage a lifelong appreciation of health. The organization hopes to create a world where girls know and their limitless potential and pursue dreams.
"Just building that self confidence helps out and in school and in their future [they] know that they have self worth and they can do anything and accomplish anything they want to do," Machemer said.
