TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — A six-year-old girl is dead after a van hit her Monday night in the Town of Tonawanda while she was crossing the street.
Town of Tonawanda Police are describing this so far as a tragic accident and do not suspect any foul play by the man they say hit the girl as she was crossing the street.
"It's very tragic. It's very emotional," said Capt. Joseph Milosich with the Town of Tonawanda Police Department.
Just before 8pm Monday night, Town of Tonawanda Police and paramedics were called out to Canterbury Lane after a six-year-old girl was hit by a van. Captain Joseph Milosich with the Town of Tonawanda Police Department says the investigation is still in its very early stages.
"Right now, everything's being handled by our Accident Investigation Unit. They're a very thorough unit. They're looking at everything as we speak," said Capt. Joseph Milosich.
The girl died at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Police have not released her name.
The 84-year-old driver of the van is cooperating with police as they investigate.
"It's still open. It's still very new. We want to get as much information and facts as possible, we want to get that to you as quickly as possible and as accurately as possible, so in order to make sure it's accurate, we want to do a very thorough investigation, and we also want to be respectful of our family and our little girl who passed away," said Capt. Joseph Milosich.
