Two-alarm fire in Amherst

Firefighters responded to the scene early Sunday morning.

GETZVILLE, N.Y. — Firefighters in Getzville are looking into what caused an early-morning fire at a building that is currently under construction.

Crews responded to the scene at 661 Skinnersville Road near Sweet Home Road at4:39 a.m. Sunday.

In a news release, the Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office says that this was a two-alarm fire with damages totaling up to $1 million.

When crews arrived on location, there were heavy fire conditions in the roof area of the wood frame structure. 

Sweet Home Rd. northbound was closed for several hours from American Campus Dr. to I-990 because of the structure fire. The building is located in a high-traffic area near Sweet Home High School and is less than a mile form the University at Buffalo North Campus.

The fire was deemed under control at 6:34 a.m. There were no injuries reported.

Amherst Fire Inspectors are looking into a cause.
