Fundraiser benefit celebrates life of Sydney Lohr, struck by car

The Sydney Lohr memorial fund will put proceeds towards a scholarship fund in Sydney's name

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Saturday night at the Buffalo Irish Center, family, friends, and community members came together to celebrate and remember the life of Sydney Lohr and raise money for a memorial scholarship at St. Lawrence University.

Lohr, a Buffalo native, was struck and killed by a car in the Elmwood Village neighborhood in July of 2023.

It was an all hands on deck effort from the memorial fund committee and community partners including Cole's on Elmwood Avenue, where Sydney was an employee. Funds were being raised through memorial fund merch, a silent auction where basket donations filled the room, and bracelets handmade by Sydney's cousins.

Sydney's family says outpour of support shown tonight was truly beyond belief.

"When we were putting this event together, we knew that we would get people to donate but so many people have shown love and been so generous, and the city of good neighbors, Buffalo, is truly coming together here and we very blessed to have so many people come and honor our daughter which is very special"

"She was amazing and smart and funny and adventurous and beautiful and she lit up a room," shared Sydney's mom, remembering her daughter's legacy.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the scholarship in Sydney's name. A legacy that the family says was a no brainer because of her love for learning.
