Free Solar Eclipse Sunglasses are still available locally for the next bigger eclipse

There are still some free left over solar eclipse sunglasses at several library branches in Erie County, after the partial eclipse over the past weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The next eclipse will be epic here locally, a Total Solar Eclipse, and there are still free Solar Eclipse Sunglasses available for it.

Many locals in Western New York are already planning for the Total Solar Eclipse, with the path of totality moving right over Buffalo in the Spring.  And there are leftover solar sunglasses from the partial eclipse that just happened over the past weekend. The Annular Solar Eclipse "Ring of Fire" over the past Saturday didn't have good weather for viewing it locally, but the next eclipse is expected to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a Total Solar Eclipse happening right in Western New York in April.

Many branches of the Erie County Library still have free solar sunglasses available for it, including the downtown location and at the Kenmore branch, at the information desks.  Also, the Buffalo Science Museum still has some as well, at the front desk. Two solar sunglasses per person are being handed out.  Some locations are already being restocked.

Some stores are also carrying solar sunglasses for purchase.  We're told, The Home Depot does currently carry solar eclipse glasses at select store locations.

Safe Solar Eclipse sunglasses are a must for viewing solar eclipses.

The Total Solar Eclipse is a rare and amazing occurrence that's set to be here locally on April 8, 2024, at around 3:20 p.m.

Some local schools have an extended Spring Break, with students off school on that solar eclipse Monday.

Other ways to see solar eclipses indirectly are with a pinhole projector, or easily just looking down at the shadows on the ground from the trees and seeing crescent shapes during the eclipse(s).
