BUFFALO, NY - Former American Idol finalist John Stevens is recovering from a serious accident in the Boston area. Stevens announced on Facebook "I was hit by a van while out for a run and suffered a fractured skull and dislocated and broken arm. Among other injuries and disorders I'm dealing with, it appears I will have some, if not total deafness in my right ear."
The accident happened last week in Chelsea, Massachusetts. 2 On Your Side's Claudine Ewing spoke with John's mom in East Amherst. She said John has a fractured skull, some swelling on the brain, two broken bones in his right arm and he is deaf in his right ear.
The nation got to know Stevens when he was 16-years old and a contestant on American Idol season three. It was the year Fantasia was crowned and other contestants like Jennifer Hudson went on to superstardom. Stevens, now 28, lives in Boston. He works full-time as a concierge at a downtown Boston hotel. He also has the John Stevens Band and he sings with the Beantown Swing Orchestra.
The popular red head endeared America with his crooning style and belting out Sinatra tunes.
John Stevens will return to Boston for more medical treatment in a couple of weeks.
The family expressed thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers as John continues to recover.
