CLARENCE, N.Y. — Firefighters were called to a home in Clarence for a report of a kitchen fire.
The incident happened just after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at a structure on Sheridan Drive near Harris Hill Road.
Investigators say the resident called the fire department to report a possible fire on the first floor of the home. The caller was on the second floor and said smoke was filling her apartment. The caller was able to safely leave the building.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they said they found smoke coming from the first floor and fire in the kitchen.
The fire was quickly brought under control.
Damage is estimated at $60,000. Investigators say the cause of the fire was a wastebasket that was left on top of an electric stove.
