GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — Grand Island Firefighters were called to an alarm for a report of a fire on Grand Island Boulevard just before 1pm on Saturday.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they initially did not see anything showing from the outside. However, upon further investigation, they found a working fire inside the building with heavy smoke showing
One crew put out the fire with water while another crew confirmed there was no one in the building.
After most of the fire was put out, a crew was sent to the roof for ventilation. They discovered fire was still active above the ceiling, so they attacked it from below and above.
The fire is believed to have caused around $2 million in damage.
Several fire companies and first responders assisted Grand Island, including Sheridan Park Fire, Ellicott Creek Fire, Kenmore Fire, Brighton Fire, City of Tonawanda Fire, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and Twin City.
They also thank the employees at the Grand Island Fun Center for bringing bottled water to firefighters and the Ladies Auxilary for providing additional support.
