Local fire department helps mother who couldn't make it to a hospital

Both the baby, Nora, and her mother are doing well.

AMHERST, N.Y. — A crew from the Main-Transit Fire Department delivered a baby at a home in Amherst.

The mother went into labor two weeks ago and couldn't make it to the hospital. In a Facebook post, the fire department said that they are trained for emergencies like this.

Both the baby, Nora, and her mother are doing well.

"Last night MTFD firefighters were able to assist in bringing a beautiful baby girl in to this world. This is not something we often get called for, but we are trained for it, and always ready to assist. Congratulations to the proud parents!" the Main-Transit Fire Department posted to Facebook on Aug. 15.
