HAMBURG, N.Y. — A man was struck and killed Friday night on the New York State Thruway's eastbound lanes in the Town of Hamburg.
The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. Friday, at mile marker 434.3, where "a 2024 Lexus TX350 was traveling eastbound in the driving lane and struck something," New York State Police said in a statement Saturday.
The person driving the Lexus pulled over and called 911. An investigation determined that it was a man who was struck, not only by the Lexus but "by numerous tractor trailers and vehicles," police said.
The man's remains were taken by the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office to Erie County Medical Center, where officials would perform an autopsy and attempt to identify the person.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted with this investigation, which is ongoing.
NITTEC late Friday night had confirmed it was a fatal crash, though no other details were immediately available. NITTEC reported that the eastbound 90 lanes were closed from roughly 10 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday as crews responded to the scene.
